In 1994, Street Fighter high-kicked its way into cinemas, bringing a popular computer game franchise to the big screen. The movie boasted some well-known faces, and it promised to deliver plenty of action, but alas, Street Fighter was not well received.
The picture – which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue – was a bit of a dud, and it flopped at the box-office. Fans were less than impressed with the finished feature, while general audiences were mostly confused about the whole thing.
However, over time Street Fighter gained cult status. This was largely due to its camp characters, ham acting, and one legendary performance from the late, great Raul Julia.
Julia played chief villain, M. Bison, and he stole the entire movie. It was a part he strongly committed himself to, despite his failing health, and he delivered some of the film’s best scenes… and daftest dialogue.
And speaking of dialogue, today is a great day to revisit some of the best lines from Street Fighter. And when I say “best lines”, I really mean cheesiest.
