In 2008, Hong Kong biographical martial arts movie, Ip Man, was released in cinemas. The film – directed by Wilson Yip – was based on the life of Ip Man – a grandmaster of the martial art, Wing Chun.

Due to the popularity of Ip Man, a sequel soon followed. The movie, was then accompanied by further sequels, as well as a collection of spin-offs.
