In 2004, Tadeo Jones made its debut. The Spanish animated short, from director Enrique Gato, followed the story of an adventurer (similar to Indiana Jones) who explores a mummy-filled pyramid.
Upon release, this animated short was met with plenty of praise, and a number of industry awards, prompting its director to work on a follow-up short, called Tadeo Jones and the Basement of Doom. This in turn inspired Gato to develop a series of feature-length movies, renamed Tad the Lost Explorer, which were based on the Tadeo Jones character.
