Who are the killers in the Scream movies?

When it comes to horror movies, we all know the only characters that anyone really cares about are the monsters and the killers. Oh, sure, we want Laurie Strode to kick some ass in the Halloween movies, and we’d like to see Nancy Thompson triumphant in the Nightmare on Elm Street series, but we all know we are really rooting for Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger respectively.

In short: Horror fans love the bad guys and the bad gals. Be it The Nun, Candyman, Tiffany, Pinhead, or Jigsaw, we can’t help but fall in love with the villains.

And in many long-running horror movie series, the villains stay the same. Chucky is the default killer in the Child’s Play movies, Norman Bates is the killer in the Psycho films, and so on.

But that’s not true of the Scream franchise, which has served up a collection of different killers throughout the course of its run. OK, so each movie sees Ghostface as the killer of the film, but if you’re a fan of the Scream franchise then you will know it is a different person wearing the Ghostface costume in each movie!

To make matters even more complicated, in most of the Scream films there are multiple Ghostface killers running around the screen. Sure, their objective remains the same (to increase the picture’s kill count), but it’s a different person each time.

The killers in the Scream movies

Below is a list of all the Ghostface killers in all six Scream movies, covering Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), Scream 4 (2011), Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023). As you will see, most of the movies include multiple killers, which explains how Ghostface is able to bump off so many teens, in so little time!

The list includes the character names, as well as the names of the actors (in brackets) who have played them.

Scream (1996) – Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) and Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich)
Scream 2 (1997) – Mickey Altieri (Timothy Olyphant) and Debbie Salt/Mrs. Loomis (Laurie Metcalf)
Scream 3 (2000) – Roman Bridger (Scott Foley)
Scream 4 (2011) – Charlie Walker (Rory Culkin) and Jill Roberts (Emma Roberts)
Scream (2022) – Richie Kirsch (Jack Quaid) and Amber Freeman (Mikey Madison)
Scream VI (2023)* – Wayne Bailey (Dermot Mulroney), Ethan Bailey (Jack Champion), and Quinn Bailey (Liana Liberato)

*Scream VI also includes two additional copycat killers, who are not the main Ghostface killers in the film. These include Jason (Tony Revolori) and Greg (killed off screen).

As is quite clear with the Scream franchise, more killers are better than one. And with multiple killers across the series, the Scream films are jam-packed with macabre murderers!
