Space Jam: A New Legacy is now playing in cinemas worldwide. The highly-anticipated movie is one of the big releases of the summer, and as many will know, it is the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 film, Space Jam.
Fans of the original movie will recall that Space Jam focused on a basketball game, played by the Looney Tunes and Michael Jordan. Anyone who has seen any promotional material for this new movie will know that Space Jam: A New Legacy also focuses on a basketball game, this time played by the Looney Tunes and LeBron James.
Similar story, but different NBA stars.
But the question many fans have been asking is: Is Michael Jordan in Space Jam: A New Legacy? Does the star of the original movie cameo in the sequel?

Michael Jordan does not cameo in Space Jam: A New Legacy. Although the movie is filled with plenty of self-referential material, as well as cameos for various characters such as Superman and Wonder Woman, the former NBA star is not in the movie.
Jordan is referenced, and his appearance is teased, but this is to set up a gag. The moment takes place at the halfway point of the basketball game.
In the locker room, LeBron James and the Looney Tunes are trying to muster up a plan to improve their playing ability, ahead of the second half of the game. It is at this point that a suggestion is made to draft in Michael Jordan.
Jordan is supposedly in the crowd, and has agreed to come backstage to the locker room. However, it is then revealed that there has been a mix-up, and it is the actor Michael B. Jordan who appears, not Michael Jordan.

The gag gets one of the biggest laughs in the film, and is a nice way to fool the audience into thinking that Michael Jordan might be appearing in the movie. And after the gag plays out, the game resumes and LeBron James and the Looney Tunes go on to win the basketball game.
