**Warning: The following post includes spoilers for the Marvel movie, Black Widow. If you are trying to avoid spoilers for the film then please do not continue reading.**
Black Widow is now playing in cinemas and finally, after 11 years of watching Scarlet Johansson inhabit the role of Natasha Romanoff, fans can now see her in a solo movie. The film – directed by Cate Shortland – is set shortly after the events of Captain America: Civil War and sees Natasha reconnect with characters from her past, including a fellow Black Widow in the shape of Yelena Belova.
During the course of the movie, Natasha and Yelena find themselves coming into contact with a deadly assassin by the name of Taskmaster. Taskmaster is a armour-clad foe, capable of mimicking the fighting skills of any opponent.
Up until the release of Black Widow, the identity of Taskmaster has been kept a mystery. All promotional material connected to the character has not revealed the face under the mask, and has not named the actor playing the role. But if you wish to know, then this post can help you out.
This is your last chance to drop out, and avoid spoilers…
Who is Taskmaster?
In Black Widow, Taskmaster is the secret identity of Antonia Dreykov. Antonia is the daughter of the movie’s chief villain, ‘Dreykov’.
In the film, Antonia was believed to have been killed as a child, as part of a sting operation overseen by Natasha Romanoff. Natasha was involved in a mission to murder Dreykov (part of her defection to S.H.I.E.L.D.), and used Antonia as insurance to ensure her father would be killed.
But neither Dreykov nor Antonia died in the operation. They both survived, however, Antonia was badly injured.
Disgusted by his disfigured daughter, but believing she could prove useful to him, Dreykov seized the opportunity to transform the injured Antonia into the ultimate weapon. Using science and technology, he took over Antonia’s mind and body, removed her free will and turned her into a mindless killer.
Who plays Taskmaster in Black Widow?
In Black Widow, Taskmaster is played by Olga Kurylenko, while her father is played by Ray Winstone. Taskmaster’s identity is largely kept a secret for the majority of the movie.
Fans of the comics will note the screen version of Taskmaster differs somewhat from her comic book counterpart. In the comics, Taskmaster is traditionally a male, whose identity is that of Anthony Masters.
