And now for something you may have missed.

This month, to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride, issue #117 of IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic features a special Pride variant cover. The cover is rainbow themed, and boasts a close-up of all five Turtles: Raphael, Michelangelo, Jennika, Leonardo, and Donatello.

As you can see from the image, the combination of the Turtles’, or more specifically the combination of the Turtles’ masks (red, orange, yellow, blue, and purple), is what creates the unique design on this cover. The image brings all of the Turtles together as one, showcasing the rainbow colours and highlighting the concept that Pride is a shared event, which connects rather than divides.

The TMNT Pride cover is one of three covers used for issue #117. This is ‘Cover B’, which was designed and illustrated by TMNT co-creator, Kevin Eastman.

The other two covers are non-Pride themed and include ‘Cover A’ (aka the regular cover) by Sophie Campbell, and the ‘Retailer Incentive Cover’ by Sam Lofti and John Rauch.

To accompany the Pride cover, Kevin Eastman also produced a very limited run of T-shirts bearing the same image. The tees – a black shirt with the Turtles Pride image in the centre – were briefly made available to order through Eastman’s Instagram account.

The tees are no longer available, so if you missed them, you unfortunately missed out. However, feel happy in the knowledge that 10% of each sale of the shirts has been donated to The Trevor Project – the leading national organisation providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth.

Happy Pride and Turtle Power to all!
