In 2004, actor Noah Wyle starred in the fantasy film, The Librarian: Quest for the Spear. The movie – which aired on TNT – told the story of Flynn Carsen, a well-read former student who takes on the role of ‘The Librarian’ – a custodian of historical and mythological artefacts, including the Ark of the Covenant, Pandora’s Box, and the Holy Grail, amongst others.

When it hit screens, Quest for the Spear proved to be a hit with audiences and was followed by a sequel. But how many Librarian movies are there, and more importantly, if you plan to watch the Librarian movies, what is the viewing order?

In this post, I am taking a look at the Librarian movies to present a viewing order for the fantasy film series. In addition, this post also includes one or two extra bits of information you will find useful if you plan to dive into this popular collection of stories.

The order of The Librarian movies

To date, there are three Librarian movies. The Librarian feature film series runs in the following order:

• The Librarian: Quest for the Spear (2004)
• The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines (2006)
• The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008)

If you wish to watch the movies, then view them in the order set out above. However, if you enjoy the trilogy, don’t just stop at the movies!

In addition to the three feature films, The Librarian franchise spawned a long-running television series, which also featured Noah Wyle. The series expanded the existing mythology of the films, maintained some of the core cast members, and added some new characters.

The Librarians television series ran for four seasons, totalling 42 episodes. If you wish to watch the whole collection (i.e. the trilogy and the 42 episodes), then use the following viewing order:

The Librarian feature films are the work of two directors. Peter Winther directed Quest for the Spear, while Jonathan Frakes directed Return to King Solomon’s Mines and Curse of the Judas Chalice.
