The reason Nicolas Cage is dressed in a Superman outfit is because he almost played Clark Kent/Superman in a live-action movie called Superman Lives. The film – from director Tim Burton – was in development during the 1990s and came very close to becoming a reality.

Before filming got underway, Cage tested out a number of Superman suits, which is why multiple images are floating around the net with the actor in costume. But as the film was never produced, these images are not from a film he acted in, they are from test footage/costume tests.

So, if Cage didn’t play Superman in Superman Lives, when did he play Superman?!

Decades after he almost appeared in Tim Burton’s ill-fated, Superman Lives, actor Nicolas Cage finally got to play the Man of Steel. It wasn’t in a live-action movie, it was instead via animation.

Cage voiced the iconic superhero in the big screen animated flick, Teen Titans GO! to the Movies (2018). The long-time comic book fan provided vocal duties as part of a number of cameo roles in the film.

Speaking to USA Today about cast cameos back in 2018, executive producer, Sam Register, said:

“Every superhero in the DC Universe has an impact on the fans, so we felt a great responsibility to find a voice for each character that would not only suit the role, but the playful tone of the Titans, and we’re thrilled with our cameo cast.”

Based on the popular Cartoon Network show, Teen Titans GO!, Teen Titans GO! to the Movies was the first big screen adventure for the DC Entertainment quintet. Scott Menville (Robin), Hynden Walch (Starfire), Greg Cipes (Beast Boy), Tara Strong (Raven) and Khary Payton (Cyborg) reprised their roles from the show, alongside a guest cast that included Will Arnett, Kristen Bell, Michael Bolton, Stan Lee, and of course, Nicolas Cage.
