During the 1990s, Bluebird Toys produced a range of toys which combined tiny figurines with imaginative playsets. One of these toy lines was Mighty Max – an action adventure brand, themed around a young boy and his journey to strange and exotic locations.
In this post I am taking a look at one of the Mighty Max sets. This is a neat playset from my collection and is a great example of how fun Mighty Max toys were (and still are).
Lashes the Lizard
Produced in 1994, Lashes the Lizard is a colourful playset, with a reptilian theme. Lashes boasts burnt orange scales, a purple forked tongue, and bright green eyes.
On his spine he showcases a Mighty Max logo, while a twist of a protruding knee bone causes his tongue to pop out. He’s creepy, he’s cool, and he is great to look at.
From an external viewpoint, Lashes is a fine-looking set, but the real delights are contained inside. Pop Lashes open and he transforms into a gruesome two-section wonderland, featuring monstrous beasts and devilish decoration.
Skulls, bones, and strange creatures inhabit the inner workings of Lashes. Parts move, platforms provide respite from the horror, and a teeny, tiny Max dwells within.
Terrifying? Yes – but also terrific. Lashes is an awesome Mighty Max playset and one that is fiendishly foul!
Mighty Max toys are very collectable and it is easy to see why. Sets like this one fire up the imagination and look damn good too, making them a real treat.
I picked this set up a couple years ago for a decent price, but I am aware that Mighty Max sets continue to prove popular. Good toys last the test of time and this is most certainly a good toy.
