Following the unprecedented success of the first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (2008 – 2019), Marvel Studios/Disney is pressing ahead with more adventures in the MCU. These new stories will fit into Marvel’s Phase 4 and will look to focus on a mix of characters, both old and new.

Here is a rundown of what to expect:*

  • Black Widow – 2020
  • The Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV show – 2021
  • The Eternals – 2021
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – 2021
  • WandaVision TV show – 2021

What to know about Phase 4

  • Black Widow will feature David Harbour and Rachel Weisz and is set in Budapest.
  • Baron Zemo will return to the MCU to appear in The Falcon and the Winter Solider.
  • The Eternals will star Angelina Jolie.
  • The Shang-Chi movie will star Simu Liu in the title role and will feature The Mandarin (the REAL Mandarin, not the fake one from Iron Man 3).
  • WandaVision is set after the events of Infinity War/Endgame BUT will include Vision.
  • The Loki TV show is a follow-on from the events of Endgame. This means Loki will not be the redeemed character who appeared in Thor: Ragnarok, but rather the trickster of his early appearances in the MCU.
  • The Doctor Strange sequel is going to directed by Sam Raimi and will feature the Scarlet Witch.
  • Many existing MCU actors will lend their voices to the What If animated series.
  • Fan-favourite Marvel character, Kate Bishop will feature in the Hawkeye TV show.
  • Natalie Portman will reprise the role of Jane Foster for Thor: Love and Thunder.
