Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will return for this next instalment, to reprise the roles of Neo and Trinity, respectively. Lana Wachowski, Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell are writing the movie, with Wachowski set to direct.

In a statement, Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich, said:

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana.

The Matrix reloaded

To date there have been three live-action Matrix movies, which were released between 1999 and 2003. The films included:

  • The Matrix (1999)
  • The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
  • The Matrix Revolutions (2003)

At the beginning of the ’00s these three Matrix films became a huge box office success, with the trilogy collectively bringing in over $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. The films also influenced many films and TV shows at the time of their release, with directors utilising the ‘bullet time’ special effect (popularised by The Matrix) within their own shows and movies.

As well as the trilogy of live-action films, the series also spawned a 2003 anime anthology film called The Animatrix. The movie included nine animated shorts.

So, thoughts please on The Matrix 4. Yay or nay?
