Cast your mind back to 2017 and the release of Power Rangers – the big screen reboot of the long-running TV show. The film – which stared Dacre Montgomery and Naomi Scott – was intended to be the beginning of a new series of PR adventures.

Unfortunately, a new beginning for the Rangers was not meant to be. The movie opened to less than impressive reviews, failed to find an audience, and faded away pretty quickly.

More recently there has been talk of a new Power Rangers movie, and if you’re a Rangers fan then this is great news. However, if you were hoping to see the return of the 2017 cast then I’m afraid I have bad news: This new film will be another reboot.

In a recent Reddit interview, Red Ranger actor, Dacre Montgomery was asked the question: “Are we getting more Power Rangers movies?”

Montgomery responded:

“I think there is a movie in the works but it’s not with me and the cast. So yes but not with us.”

It’s possible that the new movie could be a sequel to the 2017 film, with a new cast of Rangers taking over from the previous team, but it’s also very possible the slate is being wiped clean. If I was to put money on it, then I’d say that is the more likely to be the latter.

Perhaps now would be a good time to take inspiration from the current run of comics, such as an adaptation of Shattered Grid. Is now the perfect time to bring Lord Drakkon to the big screen?

To date there have been three Power Rangers movies, including Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie (2015), Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997) and the 2017 offering. Personally I liked the 2017 Power Rangers movie, so I was hoping for a continuation, but I guess it’s just not meant to be.

Ah, well.

If you’re a Power Rangers fan, let me know what you’d like to see in the next movie. Are you up for another reboot or do you think the 2017 cast should be retained? Sound off in the comments section.
