When was Ghostbusters released?

Ghostbusters was released in 1984, but the project dates back to the early 1980s, when Dan Aykroyd devised the concept as a comedic vehicle for himself and actor John Belushi. When Belushi passed away, Aykroyd continued working on the project.

Was Eddie Murphy ever in Ghostbusters?

No, Eddie Murphy was never a Ghostbuster. After John Belushi passed away, Aykroyd pictured Murphy in the role, but he never came on board the project.

Who are the original Ghostbusters?

The original cast of Ghostbusters comprise Dan Aykroyd as Ray Stantz, Bill Murray as Peter Venkman, Harold Ramis as Egon Spengler and Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore.

Why doesn’t Winston appear on the poster for Ghostbusters?

Good question and it’s a question many fans have asked for a long time. It could be to do with the amount of screen time his character has.

In the early drafts of the script, Winston was given a lot more screen time and appeared at the beginning of the movie. However, during rewrites the character’s scenes were trimmed to grant the other Ghostbusters more room to develop.

As Winston wasn’t introduced until much later in the movie, it’s feasible to suggest that he wasn’t viewed as one of the ‘original’ Ghostbusters. It’s also possible that actor Ernie Hudson wasn’t seen as a big named ‘star’ who would warrant inclusion on the poster.

For the record, Ernie Hudson should have appeared on the poster back in 1984, and he should be on any new marketing/promotion for the film today.

Did the cast improvise?

Yes, the cast members of Ghostbusters improvised a lot during filming, especially Bill Murray.

Was John Candy in Ghostbusters?

No, however the role of Louis Tully – played by Rick Moranis in Ghostbusters & Ghostbusters II (1989) – was originally written for John Candy. Candy dropped out of the project early doors, so the character was given to Moranis.

Was the Ghostbusters’ car supernatural?

In scenes trimmed from the movie it was suggested that Ecto-1 had paranormal abilities. However, no references were made to this in the final cut.

Did Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd play other characters in Ghostbusters?

Sort of. Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd filmed scenes as a pair of homeless men who commented on the events of the movie. These scenes were dropped from the movie, through a belief the characters would confuse audiences.

Kind of, but not quite.
