Netflix has cancelled Iron Fist.
The series will not return following the conclusion of its second season.
In a statement, via Deadline, Marvel said: “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners.” Marvel and Netflix added. “We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”
It’s unclear how Iron Fist will live on, however it’s likely that actor Finn Jones will reprise the role of Danny Rand/Iron Fist for one of the other Marvel Netflix shows (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage etc). However, nothing’s set in stone and even if he does return to the role, it could be nothing more than a cameo.
The next Marvel/Netflix show, Daredevil Season 3 arrives on the streaming service this month. A second season of The Punisher will follow, with new seasons of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage in development.
The door may have closed on Iron Fist, but the Marvel/Netflix partnership continues.
