Very sad news this afternoon, folks.
Former children’s television presenter, Geoffrey Hayes has died at the age of 76.
The presenter – known for his long-running stint on Rainbow – passed away in hospital, surrounded by his family. In a statement (via BBC News), Hayes’ manager, Phil Dale, said:
“The family would like to express their thanks to the many fans over the years as it always gave Geoffrey so much pleasure to know that he and his Rainbow team had given so much fun to TV and theatre audiences.”
During the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, Hayes became a household name in the UK, thanks to his appearances on Rainbow, alongside colourful characters, Zippy, George and Bungle. Hayes presented the show from 1974 until 1992 (covering the majority of Rainbow’s ’72-’97 run) and become a much-loved element of the show.
