This October, whether you’re up for it or not, Sony Pictures is releasing Venom – the first standalone movie to star the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Not only will this be the first solo film for Venom (he previously appeared in 2007’s Spider-Man 3) the film is also bringing fan-favourite character, Carnage to the big screen.
Great times, right?
While it’s no secret that Carnage will be appearing in Venom, it is a secret as to which actor will be playing him. Incidentally, it’s also no secret that actor Woody Harrelson is playing a role in Venom, however it is a secret as to which part he is playing.
OK, so it’s at this point that logic would suggest that Woody Harrelson is playing Carnage. Nothing has been confirmed but it would make sense.
But that’s OK though, right? Harrelson’s a great actor and having previously played a psychotic serial killer in Natural Born Killers (1994), he’s pretty much perfect for the part of psychotic serial killer, Carnage.
Well yes, but if Harrelson is playing Carnage, then you might want to prepare yourself for a bit of disappointment…
Woody Harrelson does not have a big role in the Venom movie.
In a recent interview with Collider, Harrelson was asked about his involvement with Venom. While Harrelson remained fairly tight-lipped about the project, not realising it was common knowledge that he was even in the movie, he did say the following:
“I’m in a little fraction of this movie, but I’ll be in the next one, you know?”
So, if Harrelson is playing Carnage, then expect this role to be nothing more than a glorified cameo, with a bigger role set up for a sequel. And yes, that does mean if you want to see Carnage then you might need to pray for a sequel.
