OK, so you’ve come this far, which means you’ve seen the movie and you have one big question in mind:
Was that really Darth Maul in Solo: A Star Wars Story?
Yes, it was Darth Maul in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
How is Darth Maul in Solo: A Star Wars Story?
Ah, that’s your real question, isn’t it? Well, the simple response is that Maul survived the events of The Phantom Menace. I feel it’s important to note this, just in case there’s any confusion as to when Solo: A Star Wars Story is set in the timeline.
So, for clarity. Solo: A Star Wars Story is set long after the events of The Phantom Menace – the film in which we saw Obi-Wan Kenobi cut Darth Maul in half. This means, that Maul survived being cut in half and has been alive this whole time!
Madness, I know – but this isn’t something new. In fact, Maul was revived in the Star Wars animated show, Clone Wars, so while it might be a surprise to see him in Solo: A Star Wars Story, it’s not completely new territory to see him alive. Darth Maul survived the Battle of Naboo, got some fancy new legs and became an important character in the show.
Expect to see him pop up again in future Star Wars standalone movies.
