British toy line, Action Man is heading to the big screen.
According to Deadline, the iconic action figure (with eagle eyes and kung-fu grip) is being turned into a movie. Muppets (2011) director, James Bobin is on board to direct the film, on behalf of Paramount.
Simon Farnaby – the writer behind Paddington 2 (2017) – is working on the script, which will see the Hasbro toy line hit the big screen for the first time.
Originally produced by Palitoy in 1966, Action Man was a popular toy throughout the ’60s and ’70s and eventually a counterpoint to the US soldier-line, G.I. Joe. During the 1990s the line underwent somewhat of a makeover – as well as a rise in popularity – obtaining an animated series and a new look in the process.
Will kids today line-up for an Action Man movie? We’ll have to wait and see to know for sure.
