This April, animated film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie arrives in cinemas. The film – a sequel to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie – reunites Mario and Luigi with Princess Peach and Toad as they set off on another adventure, this time in space!
And yes, this time the adventure includes fan-favourite character, Yoshi. The green dinosaur will be popping up in the film to add to the fun.
But when The Super Mario Galaxy Movie lands in cinemas, will it be a family friendly affair? Let’s take a look at the age rating to be sure.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie UK age rating
In the UK, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has been certified ‘PG’ by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The film has received this rating for “mild violence and threat.”
Outside of this, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has not been flagged for any bad language, nor has it been flagged for any sex or drug references.
In the UK, a ‘PG’ certificate means the film is deemed suitable for general viewing. According to the BBFC, “A PG should generally not unsettle a child aged around eight, although parents and caregivers should be aware that some scenes may be unsuitable for more sensitive children.”
Based on the ‘PG’ certificate, the BBFC believe The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is suitable for family viewing.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie US age rating
In the US, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has also been granted a ‘PG’ rating by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). The film has received this rating for action, mild violence, and rude humour.
Similar to the UK, ‘PG’ rated movies in the US are deemed suitable for general audiences. The MPAA note that ‘PG’ rated movies “may contain some material parents might not like for their young children”, but the general consensus is that ‘PG’ movies are family friendly.
