The summer is fast approaching, and with it comes a wealth of new television shows to dazzle and delight. Sure, the summer is largely about sun and fun outdoors, but there’s plenty of big shows on the horizon to keep viewers tuned in and switched on.
From action and adventure to tension and thrills, there is plenty of drama coming down the track. There’s also a spot of nostalgia too.

Spider-Noir

Conceived as a live-action spin-off from the animated Spider-Verse movies, Spider-Noir is a comic book adventure series starring Nicolas Cage. The actor takes on the role of aging private investigator, Ben Reilly, aka the Spider – the only superhero in 1930s New York.
In the series, Reilly is down on his luck and grappling with his past life as a superhero. But when an exceptional case crosses his path, Reilly must become the Spider once more.
Joining Cage in the show are Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson as Silvermane. When the series lands in May, Spider-Noir will be available to stream in colour as well as black and white.

The Boroughs – Created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews and produced by The Duffer Brothers (of Stranger Things fame), The Boroughs is a sci-fi show starring Bill Pullman, Geena Davis, Clarke Peters, Alfred Molina, Alfre Woodard, and Jenna Malone. The series focuses on a retirement community where a group of unlikely heroes join forces to stop an otherworldly threat. Release: May 21st / Netflix
Surviving Earth – Divided into eight episodes, this documentary miniseries is set to explore extinct animals and mass extinction events. The series is a co-production between Universal Television Alternative Studio and Loud Minds. Air date: June 4th / NBC & Peacock
Cape Fear – Based on John D. MacDonald’s novel, The Executioners, as well as two previous movie adaptations (one by J. Lee Thompson, the other from Martin Scorsese), Cape Fear is a drama-thriller about an ex-prisoner seeking revenge from the public defenders involved in his case. Amy Adams, Patrick Wilson, and CCH Pounder star, with Javier Bardem taking on the part of former convict, Max Cady. Air date: June 5th / Apple TV

Lanterns

As the DC Universe (Superman, Creature Commandos, Peacemaker, etc) continues to expand a new show is added to the portfolio in the shape of Lanterns – a sci-fi series based around intergalactic peacekeepers, the Green Lanterns. The series follows two of the Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, as they investigate a murder on Earth, which leads to a darker mystery.
Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, Lanterns is set to run eight episodes with Kyle Chandler playing Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. Nathan Fillion reprises the role of Guy Gardner from 2025’s Superman, while Ulrich Thomsen takes on the part of rogue Green Lantern, Sinestro. Air date: August / HBO

Elle – Created by Laura Kittrell, Elle is a comedy series positioned as a prequel to the Legally Blonde movies. Set in the 1990s, the show focuses on Elle Woods’ high school years, with Lexi Minetree taking the part of Elle (previously played by Reese Witherspoon in the films). Air date: July 1st / Prime Video
Little House on the Prairie – Based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s book series of the same name, which was previously adapted for TV back in the 1970s, Little House on the Prairie is a Western/period drama series centred around the life and times of the Ingalls family. Alice Halsey, Skywalker Hughes, Crosby Fitzgerald, and Luke Bracey feature amongst the cast. Air date: July 9th / Netflix
Lucky – Anya Taylor-Joy, Annette Bening, Timothy Olyphant, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor star in this forthcoming drama series for Apple TV. Lucky is based on Marissa Stapley’s novel of the same name, about a young woman who knows a thing or two about a good scam. Air date: July 15th / Apple TV
