This February, highly anticipated horror sequel, Scream 7 is stalking its way into cinemas. The slasher movie is the new entry in the popular Scream series, and sees Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox return to the screen to take on the latest iteration of Ghostface.
Describing the new movie, Paramount Pictures said: “When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realised as her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target.
“Determined to protect her family, Sidney must the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.”
When Scream 7 arrives in movie theatres expect it to be a big deal. The Scream movies always do well, and attract hordes of horror fans, young and old alike.
But when the movie does make its debut, will it be suitable for all? Let’s take a look at the rating to find out.

Scream 7 UK age rating

In the UK, Scream 7 has been awarded an ‘18’ certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The movie has received this rating due to “strong bloody violence”, and it is a rating which is in keeping with the standard age ratings awarded to Scream movies in the UK (all Scream movies are 18s).
In the UK, an ‘18’ certificate movie is deemed suitable for audiences aged 18 or over. No one under this age will be admitted into a screening of Scream 7 in a UK cinema.
As such, Scream 7 is an adults-only film. If you have young horror fans in your household (teens etc) and they fall below the age of 18, they won’t be able to watch this one at the cinema.

Scream 7 US age rating

In the US, all Scream movies receive an ‘R’ rating by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). Scream 7 is no different and is rated ‘R’ for strong bloody violence, gore, and language.
When it comes to the ‘R’ rating, movies with this rating are classed as ‘restricted’. This means no one under the age of 17 can view an ‘R’ rated movie unless they are accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
The MPAA’s guidance is that ‘R’ rated movies contain some adult material. As such, parents are urged to learn more about the movie before taking their young children with them.
You see, in theory, a 13-year-old could watch an ‘R’ rated film in a US cinema, as long as they have an adult with them. However, this doesn’t mean the movie is appropriate for a 13-year-old to view – it’s down to parents to decide.
So, can a US teenager watch Scream 7 at the cinema? Yes, so long as they are accompanied by an adult.
But should they watch Scream 7 at the cinema? The MPAA suggests parents read up on the film first, to decide if it’s really suitable for their horror-loving teens.
