His & Hers

First up this week is the mystery crime thriller, His & Hers. Starring Tessa Thompson, Jon Bernthal, Pablo Schreiber, Marin Ireland, Sunita Mani, Rebecca Rittenhouse, and Crystal Fox, this limited series follows a news reporter and a detective who set out to solve a murder.
Describing the show, Netflix said:
“Set in the sweltering heat of Atlanta, Anna lives in haunting reclusivity, fading away from her friends and career as a news anchor. But when she overhears about a murder in Dahlonega – the sleepy town where she grew up – Anna is snapped back to life, pouncing on the case and searching for answers.
“Detective Jack Harper is strangely suspicious of her involvement, chasing her into the crosshairs of his own investigation. There are two sides to every story: HIS & HERS, which means someone is always lying.”
Intrigued? Well, if you wish to add this one to your watchlist, His & Hers is available to stream on Netflix from January 8th.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

Up next, the ever-expanding Star Trek Universe adds another new show to its arsenal this January with the release of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
According to Paramount, “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy follows the adventures of a new class of cadets in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.”

TV Gold…
M.O.D.O.K.

Sticking with the sci-fi theme for this next show, which is an oft-overlooked slice of TV Gold from 2021 which you may have missed, but might like to try out now. The show is M.O.D.O.K., a lesser seen adult animated comedy series from Marvel.
Running for ten episodes, each lasting around 25 minutes in length, M.O.D.O.K. focuses on the titular supervillain as he tries his best to balance the needs of world domination, with the needs of family life. The results are often chaotic!
Patton Oswalt provides the voice of M.O.D.O.K. (Mental/Mobile/Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing), while Aimee Garcia takes on the role of M.O.D.O.K.’s wife, Jodie. Ben Schwartz and Melissa Fumero play M.O.D.O.K.’s children Lou and Melissa respectively.
For those who missed M.O.D.O.K. when it debuted, or who have perhaps never heard of the show, the series was a fun addition to the Marvel multiverse with some great stop-motion animation (similar to Robot Chicken). The show only ran for ten episodes due to some in-house restructuring at Marvel back in the early 2020s, but it deserved more time on the air and in an alternate universe maybe it still exists.
Should you wish to take a look, all ten episodes of M.O.D.O.K. are available to stream on Disney+.
