Making its way into cinemas this December is the sci-fi action movie sequel, Avatar: Fire and Ash. Directed by James Cameron, the film stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass and Kate Winslet, and continues the story of the Sully family.
Describing the movie, 20th Century/Disney said: “With Avatar: Fire and Ash, James Cameron takes audiences back to Pandora in an immersive new adventure with Marine turned Na’vi leader Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Na’vi warrior Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and the Sully family.”
With Cameron’s two previous Avatar movies (Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water) being box office sensations, the interest level for this third movie is very high, especially amongst young, adolescent audiences. But when the movie hits cinema screens will it be suitable for all ages, including teens?
Let’s take a look at the age rating to find out.

Avatar: Fire and Ash UK age rating

In the UK, Avatar: Fire and Ash has been awarded a ‘12A’ certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The movie has received this certificate for “violence, threat, injury detail, brief suicide references, drugs, (and) language.”
In the UK, a film with a ‘12A’ certificate film is deemed by the BBFC as being most suitable for audiences aged 12 or over. This age group (and above) is who the organisation believe is best suited to dealing with the themes and content of the movie.
However, audiences under the age of 12 can watch a ‘12A’ in cinemas, as long as they are accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. While the BBFC believe the film is most suitable for those aged 12 and above, it also recognises that some audiences below this age will be OK with the movie, so long as parents take responsibility for allowing their children to watch.
As to the question above, yes, Avatar: Fire and Ash is suitable for a teen.

Avatar: Fire and Ash US age rating

In the US, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has given Avatar: Fire and Ash a ‘PG-13’ rating. The film has received this rating for intense sequences of violence and action, bloody images, some strong language, thematic elements, and suggestive material.
In the US, a ‘PG-13’ rated movie can be watched by any one of any age. However, the MPAA believe some material may be inappropriate for children under the age of 13, so parents are strongly cautioned and may want to learn more about the film before their youngest children watch it.
As for teens, the MPAA believe the movie is fine for teenagers. So if you have a teen in your household, they should be fine with Avatar: Fire and Ash.
