The Wizard of Oz (1939)

First up, if you’ve just watched Wicked: For Good now is a good time to fill in some all-important story gaps with 1939’s The Wizard of Oz – Victor Fleming’s marvellous musical about a young girl named Dorothy Gale, who finds herself in the colourful land of Oz. Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, and Margaret Hamilton star. (102 mins)

Return to Oz (1985)

Dark and somewhat scary but truly mesmerising, Return to Oz is a Disney fantasy from director Walter Murch. Designed as a loose sequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story sees Dorothy return to Oz to face the evil Nome King, as well as the terrifying Princess Mombi. (113 mins)

Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)

Sticking with Oz for this next one, and it’s Sam Raimi’s 2013 Wizard of Oz prequel, Oz the Great and Powerful. James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams star in this fantasy romp which focuses on the man who will become the Wizard. (130 mins)

In the Heights (2021)

Wicked/Wicked: For Good director Jon M. Chu calls the shots on this next one – a musical drama about a Dominican community in Upper Manhattan who dream of a better life. Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, and Melissa Barrera star in In the Heights. (143 mins)

The Greatest Showman (2017)

Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya star in this all-singing, all-dancing musical drama loosely based on the life of showman, P. T. Barnum. Michael Gracey directs The Greatest Showman. (105 mins)

Labyrinth (1986)

And finally, if you’re still craving some fantasy and musical fun then look no further than Jim Henson’s musical fantasy, Labyrinth – an adventure film about a young girl who must brave a deadly labyrinth in order to rescue her baby brother. David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly star. (101 mins)
