The 1960s

As noted above, Beatty began his movie career in 1961 playing the role of Bud Stamper in teen drama, Splendour in the Grass. From here he starred in The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone, followed by All Fall Down.
With each movie, Beatty began to cement himself as a notable player in the industry, leading toward 1967’s Bonnie and Clyde. For this film, Beatty took on the role of notorious ex-con, Clyde Barrow opposite Faye Dunaway as Bonnie Parker, and the pair lit up the screen in this true crime caper.

Other notable movies included Shampoo, as well as the sports-fantasy, Heaven Can Wait, which Beatty co-directed with Buck Henry.

The 1980s

Into the 1980s, and Beatty began the decade directing, starring, producing, and co-writing the 1981 epic historical drama, Reds. Playing the role of John Reed, alongside a cast which included Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson, the film detailed the life of Reed, the journalist and writer who chronicled the October Revolution in Russia.
Following the release of Reds, Beatty didn’t appear on screen again until 1987, returning for the adventure comedy, Ishtar, opposite Dustin Hoffman. Released to polarising reviews, the movie would go on to become one of the most notorious box-office flops of all-time.
However, this did nothing to impact Beatty’s career, and moving beyond this decade he continued to front movies regardless.

The 1990s

Into the 1990s and Beatty began the decade as writer, producer, and star of Dick Tracy. Based on the comic book character of the same name, Dick Tracy was an all-star affair boasting a cast which included Madonna, Al Pacino, Glenne Headly, Dustin Hoffman, James Caan, Paul Sorvino, Mandy Patinkin, Dick Van Dyke, and many, many others.
Following on from Dick Tracy, Beatty appeared in Bugsy, and Love Affair. He then starred, directing, wrote, and produced the political satire, Bulworth.
