In 1974, Robert Englund made his film debut in the movie, Buster and Billie. From here he followed up his movie work with roles in films such as Sunburst, and Hustle.

Over the years, his screen presence increased and more movies followed, including many, many horror pictures, such as Urban LegendWishmaster, and The Phantom of the Opera. Englund also took on the role of Freddy Krueger in a long running series of Nightmare on Elm Street movies.

As noted above, Englund started his movie career in 1974 via a small role in Buster and Billie. Sunburst soon followed, as did a role in Hustle.

The 1980s

Sliding into the 1980s and Englund began the decade in films such as Dead and Buried, Galaxy of Terror, and Thou Shalt Not Kill. More movies followed, including I Want to Live and Hobson’s Choice.

For a while, Englund kept moving from film to film, often flying under the radar. However, all that changed in 1984 when he took on the role of Fred ‘Freddy’ Krueger in Wes Craven‘s A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Playing the role of Freddy catapulted Englund into the stratosphere and a string of sequels quickly followed. In fact, the character and the movie series proved so popular, they took up most of Englund’s time for the remainder of the decade.

His roles in this decade focused more on voice over work, and in 2023 he popped up as himself in the docu-film, Hollywood Dreams and Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story, which focused on his life and career.
