Tales from the Crypt (1972)

First up is the British horror anthology film, Tales from the Crypt from 1972. Based on short stories taken from the pages of EC Comics (The Vault of Horror, Tales from the Crypt, The Haunt of Fear), this movie comprises five individual segments: …And All Through the House, Reflection of Death, Poetic Justice, Wish You Were Here, and Blind Alleys. (92 mins)

The Vault of Horror (1973)

Next up is The Vault of Horror, another British anthology film which lifts stories from the pages of Tales from the Crypt (as well as one from EC’s Shock SuspenStories). The segments in this film include: Midnight Mess, The Neat Job, This Trick’ll Kill You, Bargain in Death, and Drawn and Quartered. (83 mins)

Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight (1995)

The next film is a US production, which in itself is as a spin-off of HBO’s Tales from the Crypt television series. This one also differs from the previous films as Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight is not an anthology movie, but rather a self-contained film.

This film focuses on two strangers who have a connection. One is a drifter, the other a demon, and they find themselves locked in battle over a mysterious artefact. (92 mins)

Tales from the Crypt: Bordello of Blood (1996)

This fourth film is the second spin-off from the Tales from the Crypt television series, and also a single, self-contained movie. Tales from the Crypt: Bordello of Blood centres its story around the mother of all vampires, Lilith. (87 mins)

Tales from the Crypt: Ritual (2002)

And finally, the fifth film is Tales from the Crypt: Ritual, a horror movie focusing on a zombie, voodoo, and a story of revenge! This film was initially produced as a remake of the 1943 movie, I Walked with a Zombie, but was later re-edited to become the third spin-off from HBO’s Tales from the Crypt series. (99 mins)
