In the UK, Tron: Ares has been awarded a ‘12A’ certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The movie has received this rating due to “moderate violence (and) threat.”

In the UK, a ‘12A’ is generally deemed suitable for audiences aged 12 or over, as it may contain some material which is not suitable for very young children. However, children under the age of 12 can watch a ‘12A’ in a UK cinema, so long as they are accompanied by an adult.

In this instance, it is up to individual parents to decide if this specific movie is suitable for their child. For example, some eight-year-olds are fine with ‘12A’ films and some are not.

If you’re unsure whether or not Tron: Ares will be suitable for your child, you could always take a look at the film first, before taking your son(s) or daughter(s) to see it. This may help you form a better decision.

However, as a quick rule of thumb, which may help, many of the big superhero movies (especially Marvel films) tend to carry a ‘12A’ certificate, as do the Jurassic World films. If your child is fine with the material presented in these films, then they may be fine with Tron: Ares.

In the US, Tron: Ares has received a ‘PG-13’ rating by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). In the US, when it comes to ‘PG-13’ rated movies, parents are urged to be cautious as some material may be unsuitable for pre-teenagers.

However, there is no stipulations or limitations on who can watch a ‘PG-13’ movie. The rating is in place as a guide, and any child of any age can watch a ‘PG-13’ at the cinema.

For context, the Avengers movies and the Spider-Man movies are all ‘PG-13’ rated movies. So, if your kids are fine with those films, they may be fine with Tron: Ares.
