This October, the fantasy horror movie, Good Boy makes its debut. Directed by Ben Leonberg, the film follows the story of a dog who must stand against supernatural forces to protect his owner.
Told from the dog’s perspective, Good Boy is pitched as a fairly unique horror movie. It’s also a film which is surrounded by significant amount of buzz, as well as a great deal of interest from the horror crowd (especially in the run-up to Halloween).
But when Good Boy receives its cinematic release, who is the film suitable for? For example, is Good Boy suitable for teen horror fans?
Let’s take a look at the age rating.

Good Boy (2025) UK rating

In the UK, Good Boy has been awarded a ‘15’ certificate from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The movie has received this award due to “strong horror (and) bloody images.”
In the UK, if the BBFC award a film a ‘15’ certificate it means the movie is deemed suitable for audiences aged 15 or over. No one below this age will be admitted into a UK cinema to watch the movie.
So, based on the ‘15’ rating, the BBFC have made it clear Good Boy is suitable for some teenagers (15+), but not suitable for all teenagers (13, 14, etc).

Good Boy (2025) US rating

In the US, it’s a slightly different story. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has given Good Boy a ‘PG-13’ rating.
The movie has received this rating due to terror, bloody images, and strong language. However, in the US the ‘PG-13’ rating is less restrictive.
When it comes to a ‘PG-13’, the MPAA advises parents to be cautious, as some material may be inappropriate for children under 13, but anyone can watch the film in a US cinema. There are no restrictions on age, just some cautioning.
As such, while the MPAA advises parents to be aware of the film’s content (terror, bloody images, etc), the ‘PG-13’ rating suggests Good Boy is deemed suitable for a teenager.
