Just when you thought it was safe to return to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, think again, as a new evil awaits. And it appears in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the follow-up to the very successful 2023 video game adaptation, Five Nights at Freddy’s.
That first film took over $297 million at the worldwide box-office two years ago, and that’s not a bad chunk of change. Especially when you consider it only cost $20 million to make.
As such, Universal Pictures, Blumhouse, and director Emma Tammi are back for another movie, which hopes to continue the success. Game creator Scott Cawthon is also on board as writer.

According to Universal, “One year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town’s first ever Fazfest.
“Former security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have kept the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), concerning the fate of her animatronic friends.
“But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades.”
As noted above, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, and Piper Rubio are all reprising their roles from the first film, as is Matthew Lillard, and Theodus Crane. They will be joined by a cast which includes Freddy Carter, Wayne Knight, McKenna Grace, and Skeet Ulrich.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 went into development pretty much straight after the first entry blew up the box-office. Blumhouse Productions company founder, Jason Blum, confirmed the sequel had been green lit back in April 2024, and noted that Jim Henson’s Creature Shop would be providing the animatronics for the film.
Shooting began in late October 2024, and wrapped in February 2025. Since then, director Emma Tammi has been working with cinematographer Lyn Moncrief, and composers The Newton Brothers to put together a sequel which aims to delight fans of the first movie and hopefully beyond!
Will it live up to the job? We’ll find out later this year.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is currently scheduled to debut on December 5th.
