If you’re a parent, then chances are you’re more than aware of the existence of Gabby’s Dollhouse. The interactive television series, which streams on Netflix, is extremely popular with young children and is quite possibly popular with your kids too.

In fact, Gabby’s Dollhouse is so popular that not only is the series a big hit for Netflix with multiple seasons under its belt, but it has also spawned a new film. The movie arrives in cinemas this month, and features a cast which includes Laila Lockhart Kraner, Gloria Estefan, and Kristen Wiig.

Described as a live-action/animated musical fantasy comedy, the film will be available to watch on the big screen from September 26th. Titled Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, the film follows Gabby as she embarks on a road trip with her grandmother to Cat Francisco.

But when Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie does arrive on the big screen, will it still be suitable for children? The show is a hit with the pre-school crowd, but will Hollywood ‘age up’ the film for mass appeal?

Let’s take a look at the age rating.

Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie UK rating

In the UK, Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie has received a ‘U’ certificate from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). In the UK a ‘U’ means the film is deemed as ‘universal’, meaning it is suitable for all ages.

‘U’ certficates are generally granted to movies which are fine for children. And while not all ‘U’ certificate films are children’s movies, a great deal of movies aimed at young children do carry a ‘U’ certificate.

According to the BBFC, “children’s content should be set within a positive framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or scary scenes.” The organisation adds: “generally a ‘U’ is unlikely to unsettle a four-year-old.”

Providing further details on Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, the BBFC notes the film contains “very mild violence, threat, rude humour, (and) innuendo.” However, all of this falls within the realm of a ‘U’ certificate.

As such, the BBFC has deemed Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie suitable for children. Of course, parents are completely free to check out the movie before showing it to their children if they wish, but the ‘U’ certificate suggests it should be fine for most children.

When it comes to ‘G’ rated movies, all ages are admitted into the cinema. According to the MPAA, a ‘G’ rated film contains “nothing that would offend parents for viewing by children.”

Based on the ‘G’ rating, the MPAA believe Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie is suitable for all. So, if you have a child in your household and they really want to watch Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie at the cinema, the MPAA believe it should be fine.
