Until the end of time, there will be endless discussions about the Spider-Man movies, from which is the best Spider-Man film to who was the best Spidey actor?! And most of these discussions end in opinions (something everyone has).
In this post I am highlighting seven popular opinions about the Spider-Man movies. These are opinions which are often collectively shared by the Spider-Man fan base, and tend to arise in regular discussions about the Spidey film series.
Remember, these are opinions ONLY, so not everyone agrees with them, but they do pop up regularly. Let’s see which you agree with.

Opinion #1 – Into the Spider-Verse is the BEST Spider-Man movie

Some people will tell you Spider-Man (2002) is the best Spider-Man movie, others will tell you Spider-Man 2 (2004) is the best Spider-Man movie. However, the general opinion amongst fans of the Spider-Man film series is that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) is actually the best Spider-Man movie.
Unlike the Spidey films which came before it, Into the Spider-Verse is an animated adventure rather than a live-action feature. It is also the first Spider-Man movie not to place Peter Parker in the lead role (Miles Morales is the Spider-Man here).
Upon release back in 2018, the animation and the introduction of a new Spider-Man proved very popular with audiences, who praised the movie. The critics were also fans of the film, as were the industry insiders who awarded Into the Spider-Verse with an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Opinion #2 – Venom should NOT have appeared in Spider-Man 3

From the Green Goblin through to the Sandman, the villains that featured in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy were almost all classic era villains (i.e. villains created during the ‘60s) and were mostly met with praise from fans. But one villain was not so warmly met by the fan base and that was Venom – a character who was not created during the 1960s.
Introduced in Spider-Man 3, Venom was a character who felt out of place in the movie. His backstory didn’t quite gel with Raimi’s universe and it was no secret the director was pressured to include the villain in Spider-Man 3 at the behest of the producers.
Sure, Venom has fans, but the general rule of thumb amongst most fans of the Raimi films is that Venom had no place being in Spider-Man 3. So, yeah, Venom should NOT have appeared in Spider-Man 3.

Opinion #3 – Sam Raimi SHOULD have directed Spider-Man 4

After directing Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, Sam Raimi was on board to direct yet another Spidey movie: Spider-Man 4. However, that movie never came to pass and was instead replaced with The Amazing Spider-Man (2012).
Backstage problems between Raimi and Sony Pictures ultimately resulted in the director walking away from Spider-Man 4, which is why the film series was rebooted under ‘The Amazing’ banner. But many fans believe that Sony and Raimi should have come to an arrangement to proceed with Spider-Man 4 to bring his era of Spider-Man films to a more satisfactory conclusion.

Opinion #4 – Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were PERFECTLY cast

When news first broke that the original Spider-Man movie series was being rebooted, following the abrupt conclusion of director Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, fans were less than impressed. Raimi’s films were still fresh in the audience’s mind and there seemed no real reason to click the reset button.
Unphased by fan backlash, Sony pressed ahead and the first of these new movies arrived in 2012, under the title of The Amazing Spider-Man. It was then followed in 2014 with The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
This collection of Spider-Man films proved to be divisive amongst fans and ended after just two entries. However, the general opinion is that both films featured a strong cast, with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone standing out as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, respectively.
To this day, fans praise both Garfield and Stone. It was perfect casting, which got caught up in a tangled mess created by the studio behind the films.

Opinion #5 – The CGI in Venom was POOR

When Spider-Man spin-off movie, Venom arrived in cinemas in 2018 it made a lot of money, taking over $880 million at the worldwide box office. Yet despite the cash, the critical opinion was less than impressive, with many feeling Venom was tonally uneven and poorly written.
However, the biggest criticism of the movie was the computer-generated effects, which seemed below standard. At times, the effects were subpar and certainly not strong enough for a movie released in an age where special effects are often praised.
Various opinions about Venom get traded around during discussions of the Spider-Man film series, but it is the poor CGI that most people agree on.

Opinion #6 – Sony’s Spider-Man Universe was a MESS

Venom wasn’t the only Spider-Man spin-off movie with problems. In fact, Sony Pictures had quite a few problematic Spider-Man-related films when the studio attempted to create a connected universe, linked by Spidey foes and allies.
The main problem? The films were largely poor. The other big sticking point? The film’s didn’t feature Spider-Man!
The studio attempted to create a Spider-Man side universe, composed of Morbius, Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter, and a trio of Venom films, only without including Spider-Man along the way! Absolute madness, and an absolute shambles.

Opinion #7 – No more ORIGIN stories

And finally, as much as Spider-Man fans understand the importance of the character’s origin story, few want to see it depicted on screen again (at least not for a while, anyway). The reason for this?
2002’s Spider-Man spent a great deal of time establishing who Peter Parker is and how he comes to be a wall-crawling superhero. Ten years later, 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man also focussed heavily on Spider-Man’s origin.
Two origin stories in less than a decade proved to be two too many and it made fans long for a Spider-Man series without a need to focus on this particular story beat. While Sony have tended to agree, choosing to bypass Spider-Man’s origin in recent years, fans are still pretty adamant that they don’t want any origin tales for quite some time.
