In 2024, The Strangers: Chapter 1 arrived in cinemas. Directed by Renny Harlin, the movie was a home invasion horror, and the first entry in a three-part tale.

This September, The Strangers: Chapter 2 debuts in cinemas to continue the story. The sequel arrives in the run-up to Halloween, and is likely to catch the attention of horror fans.

But what is the age rating of The Strangers: Chapter 2 and is the film suitable for all? For example, if you have teen horror fans in the house, will they be able to watch the movie at the cinema?

The Strangers: Chapter 2 UK rating

In the UK, the British Board of Film Classification (the BBFC) has awarded The Strangers: Chapter 2 a ‘15’ certificate. The movie has received this rating due to “strong threat, violence, bloody images, (and) language.”

In the UK, a movie with a ‘15’ certificate is deemed suitable for audiences aged 15 or over. No one below this age is permitted to watch a ‘15’ certificate film in a UK cinema.

It doesn’t matter if your child is 14 and attending a screening with an aunt or a group of older friends, unless they are 15 or above they can’t watch the movie. Rules are rules.

So, based on this certificate, the BBFC believes the movie is suitable for some audiences, but not all. Fifteen and above yes, but below 15 it’s a no.

The Strangers: Chapter 2 US rating

Over in the US, The Strangers: Chapter 2 has been given an ‘R’ rating from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). The movie has received this rating for bloody violence and language.

In the US, things are a little different when it comes to ratings and anyone can watch an ‘R’ rated movie in a US cinema. The only rule is that audiences under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. 

So, if you have a teen in your household and they wish to watch The Strangers: Chapter 2 at the cinema, they can do if they are accompanied by an adult. The MPAA simply advises parents to learn a little more about the film ahead of the screening.
