In late 2000, the horror movie, Dracula 2000 flew into cinemas. The film – conceived as a modern take on the iconic vampire mythology – starred Gerard Butler and followed the story of Count Dracula as he is resurrected in the 21^st Century.

But despite some well-known names amongst its cast, as well as a contemporary setting, Dracula 2000 failed to find an audience and it subsequently flopped at the box office. However, thanks to some interest on the home video market, when the film was released on VHS/DVD it was able to gain a second wind.

This second wind convinced producers to push ahead with a collection of sequels, expanding Dracula 2000 beyond just one movie. But how many Dracula 2000 movies are there and what is the correct viewing order?

The Dracula 2000 movies

Dracula 2000 (2000)

As noted above, the first entry in the series debuted in 2000 under the title Dracula 2000 (aka Dracula 2001 in some countries and Wes Craven Presents: Dracula 2000 in others). The movie picked up after the events of Bram Stoker’s classic novel, Dracula, with Count Dracula – as played by Butler – arriving in 21st Century New Orleans in search of the daughter of his enemy, Van Helsing. Dracula II: Ascension (2003)

The next film in the series arrived in 2003 as a direct-to-VHS/DVD offering titled Dracula II: Ascension. In this film a group of medical students discover the body of Dracula, who is now played by Stephen Billington. (85 mins)

Dracula III: Legacy (2005)

The third film arrived in 2005, also as a direct-to-video film, under the title Dracula III: Legacy. This movie picks up five years after the events of Ascension, with Father Uffizi and his companion Luke attempting to stop Dracula (now played by Rutger Hauer) once and for all. (90 mins)
