This September, legendary rockers Spinal Tap are heading back to the cinema for more madcap mockumentary fun in big screen comedy, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. The film from documentary maker Marty Di Bergi (actually from Rob Reiner), stars Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer, and follows the latest exploits of Spinal Tap as they embark on a final show.

If you remember the original film from the first time around, or you’ve caught it in recent years, you’re probably keen to check out this next instalment. You may even want to take the kids or even the grandkids to the cinema to see what good ol’ fashioned rockstars are really like!

But hang on, before you crank your excitement level up to 11, you be asking the all-important question: Can you take the kids to this film? Is Spinal Tap II: The End Continues suitable for children?

Let’s delve into the age rating to find out.

Let’s begin with the UK, where Spinal Tap II: The End Continues has been given a ‘15’ certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The movie has received this rating due to “strong language”.

In the UK, a film with a ‘15’ certificate is deemed suitable for audiences aged 15 years old or over. If the BBFC award a ‘15’ certificate to a movie, then audiences must be this age or above to view the film in UK cinemas.

So, what does this mean if you have kids or grandkids and you want them to see the power of Spinal Tap on the big screen? Well, if they are below the age of 15 you’ll have to hang fire I’m afraid.

Based on the age certificate awarded by the BBFC, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues is not for children, unless they are 15 or above.

Over to the US now, where the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has awarded Spinal Tap II: The End Continues an ‘R’ rating. Spinal Tap II: The End Continues has received this rating for language including some sexual references.

In the US anyone can watch an ‘R’ rated movie, the only stipulation is any audience member under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. The MPAA also advise parents to learn more about the film before taking young children to a screening

When it comes to ‘R’ rated movies, films with this rating contain some adult material, so the MPAA ask parents to consider the suitability of the film if children are in attendance. However, this isn’t law, just guidance.

Based on the age rating, if you live in the US you can take your kids or grandkids to see Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, you just need to decide if this movie is for them or not, based on the information supplied. Put simply: It’s at your own discretion.
