Pet Sematary (1989)

As noted above, the Pet Sematary movie series began in 1989 with the release of the horror film, Pet Sematary. Adapted from Stephen King’s novel, the film focused on a young family who move to a new town, for what should be an exciting new chapter in their lives.

In the film, Louis Creed and his family move to Ludlow, so Louis can start a new job. Shortly after arriving, Louis is made aware of a special pet cemetery by his neighbour Jud Crandall, which supposedly can bring animals back from the dead.

However, when Louis’ son, Gage is killed in a road accident, he uses the mysterious abilities of the cemetary to resurrect his lost child. But as he soon discovers, this newly resurrected Gage is not the boy he once was. (113 mins)

Pet Sematary Two (1992)

Upon release, Pet Sematary was a hit at the box-office which prompted the production of a sequel. Picking up a few years after the events of the first film, the story focused on a young boy who uses the pet cemetery to resurrect his deceased mother, with dreadful consequences. (100 mins)

Pet Sematary (2019)

Thirty years after the release of the first Pet Sematary movie, this third offering takes things back to the beginning as the second adaptation of King’s novel. The movie followed the same basic plot as the original film, but with one notable difference: It wasn’t Gage who died. (101 mins)

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines (2023)

Conceived as a prequel, with events taking place fifty years before 2019’s Pet Sematary, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines focused on the early years of Jud Crandall. In the movie, Jud discovers a local Native American cemetery with resurrection abilities. (84 mins)
