In 1976, the supernatural horror movie, Carrie made its way into cinemas. The film – based on a Stephen King novel of the same name – followed the story of a shy teenager who is constantly ridiculed by her peers.
However, when the girl develops unique abilities, her tormentors get more than a taste of their own medicine. They come to realise it’s not a good idea to pick on a seemingly meek teen.
Upon release, Carrie was a hit with critics, as well as a box-office success. As such, it was soon followed by a collection of follow-ups and remakes.
But how many Carrie movies are there? For all the details, hold onto you buckets of pigs blood, and keep reading!

Carrie (1976)
As noted above, the first entry in the Carrie movie series made its debut in 1976. The film focused on the story of Carrie White as played by Sissy Spacek – a friendless teen who is subjected to constant bullying from fellow students.
But Carrie is no ordinary teenager, and little do her tormentors know she has telekinetic powers. One day, when they push her too far, the bullies soon regret their actions in one of the most iconic scenes in horror history. (98 mins)
The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999)
Twenty-three years after the release of Carrie, belated sequel, The Rage: Carrie 2 made its debut. Unlike the original film, which was based on a Stephen King novel, this entry was instead conceived as a generic horror which was rewritten to become a direct sequel to Carrie.
The movie followed the story of Rachel Lang – the younger, half-sister of Carrie White. Rachel (Emily Bergl) develops telekinetic powers, and encounters teen troubles. (104 mins)
Carrie (2002)
For movie No. 3, it’s a return to the series roots with a remake/re-imagining of Stephen King’s novel. In the film, which was made for television, Carrie White (Angela Bettis) is harassed by schoolmates, then disappears, with a series of flashbacks detailing what happened. (132 mins)
Carrie (2013)
And it’s yet another remake for movie No. 4. Released theatrically, this version of Carrie updates the setting for (then) more contemporary times, but follows the same format and storyline with Chloë Grace Moretz playing Carrie White. (99 mins)
