This autumn (or the fall if you live in the US), you may wish to set your sights on the big screen. A new Predator movie is stalking cinemas, and if you’ve been enjoying the recent entries (2022’s Prey, this year’s Predator: Killer of Killers) then it’s possible this latest offering is targeted directly at you.

Dan Trachtenberg, the director of the two previous Pred films is back for a third time, and he’s hoping to bring plenty of action and adventure, as well as all of the usual thrills associated with this series. His new movie is Predator: Badlands, and this one promises to deliver a new Predator, a new setting, and a new connection to the Alien movie series.

Yep, you read that correctly, this isn’t just any old Predator movie – there’s an Alien link too. That link comes in the form of Thia – an android created by Weyland-Yutani, who plays a key role in the story.

Elle Fanning takes on the part of Thia, and while details of her character are currently shrouded in mystery, a recent teaser trailer has provided at least one little titbit. It seems Thia is connected to the Weyland-Yutani Bio-Weapons Division.

As for her involvement in the film, Thia teams up with the Predator, Dek, who is on his first hunt on a seemingly deadly planet. However, it would appear that Dek – played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi – could be a little out of his depth and may have become the prey.

Describing the new movie, Disney said: “Set in the future on a remote planet, where a young Predator, outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.”

Sound exciting? Well, if you’ve caught a look at the teaser trailer for Predator: Badlands then it certainly seems as if Trachtenberg is keen to throw a great deal at the screen.

As seen with his recent movies, the director likes to delve into the Predator mythology, offer up plenty of new characters, and really expand this world. He is a big fan of the Predator Universe, his enthusiasm is clear, and this makes it a treat for fans of this franchise.

Will Predator: Badlands continue the trend of good Predator movies that we have all been basking in lately? Let’s hope so.

It’s certainly looking good. Predator: Badlands could prove to be the post-Halloween palate cleanser we all need, before we move into the final stages of the year, where it’s all about Wicked: For Good, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and of course, Christmas.

Produced by John Davis, Dan Trachtenberg, Marc Toberoff, Ben Rosenblatt, and Brent O’Connor, Predator: Badlands arrives in cinemas on Friday 7th November.
