Hold onto your sides, because this summer your ribs are set to be tickled when action comedy, The Naked Gun lands in cinemas. The spoof movie from director Akiva Schaffer is the fourth entry in The Naked Gun movie series, and is promising lots of laughs.
The original run of movies starred Leslie Nielsen in the role of Lt. Frank Drebin, whereas this new offering is led by Liam Neeson. He takes on the part of Drebin’s son, Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., and is joined by a cast which includes Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, CCH Pounder, and Busta Rhymes.
If you’ve cast your eyes over the trailer for The Naked Gun you’ll know it offers gags and plenty of tongue-in-cheek humour. Entertaining audiences appears to be the order of the day, so expect daft situations, and even dafter characters.
But when The Naked Gun does open in cinemas, is this film suitable for family viewing? More importantly, is it one the kids can watch?
Let’s take a look at the ratings.

The Naked Gun (2025) UK age rating

First up, in the UK, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has awarded The Naked Gun a ’15’ certificate. The movie has been granted this certificate for “strong sex references”.
In the UK, a film with a ’15’ certificate is deemed suitable for audiences who are aged 15 and over. No one below the age of 15 is allowed to watch a ’15’ certificate film in the cinema, not even if they are accompanied by an adult or guardian.
So, based on this rating, the BBFC believe The Naked Gun is not suitable for children. It is also only suitable for family viewing if the youngest members of the family are aged 15 or above.

The Naked Gun (2025) US age rating

Over to the US now, where the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has awarded The Naked Gun a ‘PG-13’ rating. The Naked Gun is rated ‘PG-13’ for crude/sexual material, violence and bloody images, as well as partial nudity.
In the US, any one of any age can watch a ‘PG-13’ rated movie at the cinema. There are no restrictions and no accompanying adults required.
However, parents are urged to be cautious. Some material may be inappropriate for pre-teenage audiences (i.e. young children).
So, based on this rating, The Naked Gun can be watched by a family audience if you so wish, but the MPAA do suggest parents be aware of the material in the film. Not all of the content will be suitable for the youngest members of the family, so proceed with caution.
