Cast your mind back a few years, to when Deadpool director, Tim Miller was still attached to Deadpool 2 (before he was replaced by David Leitch) and you may recall he had some grand plans for his proposed sequel. In fact, had Miller stayed on board Deadpool 2, the film would have been quite different to what eventually materialised.
How different? Well, most notably Deadpool 2 would have included an appearance from the Fantastic Four.
And yes, it would have been the FF team from 2015’s Fantastic Four reboot. That was Miles Teller as Mister Fantastic, Kate Mara as the Invisible Woman, Jamie Bell as the Thing, and Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch.

While developing the picture, Miller hired illustrator and concept artist Alexander Lozano to work on his version of Deadpool 2. Although that movie ultimately never went ahead, Lozano did produce some concept artwork.
Back in 2018, Lozano shared some of that work on his Instagram account. He featured designs for all four members of the team, including this image of Mara below, who is wearing a more ‘battle ready’ outfit for Sue Storm.

When it came to the Thing, Lozano moved away from the design used in the 2015 film, and instead focused on a more comic inspired take on the character. Explaining his reasons, he said: “Tim Miller was very precise when it came to the description of ‘the Thing’, he wanted to make sure that I orient myself in the design as close as possible to the comic template to finally give us, the fans, what we always wanted to see on the big screen.”
He added: “It may sound surprising, but the supposedly simple task turned out to be a major challenge after several failed attempts than originally assumed – for the sake of my reputation I will spare you all those design errors.”

As you can see in the image above, the Thing is also ‘battle ready’ and VERY different to the frankly quite terrible design we got in Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four film. This version is much more comic book accurate in appearance, is sporting a cigar, and looks as if he is about ready to utter the immortal catchphrase, “It’s clobberin’ time!”
But the question is, would the Fantastic Four have been a good addition to Deadpool 2? I guess we’ll never know.
However, as the reaction to 2015’s Fantastic Four was pretty bad (and that’s putting it mildly), the inclusion of this version of the team may not have gone down well. After all, it seems fair to say the majority of FF fans were quite happy not to see these guys again.
