This week sees the release of Sarbala Ji. The film – which stars Gippy Grewal, Ammy Virk, Sargun Mehta, and Nimrat Khaira – arrives in UK cinemas on Friday 18th July.

Directed by Mandeep Kumar, Sarbala Ji is a Punjabi-language comedy which focuses on a bride and groom. In the movie the pair face various challenges ahead of their wedding.

Before the movie opens, you may be wondering who the film is suitable for. For example, could a teenager watch Sarbala Ji in a UK cinema?

Let’s take a look at the age rating to find out.

Sarbala Ji UK age rating

In the UK, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has granted Sarbala Ji a ’12A’ certificate. The movie has received this certificate for “moderate violence (and) injury detail.”

In terms of injury detail, when describing this ’12A’ film the BBFC said “blood spurts and bullet wounds are visible during scenes of violence. A corpse is visible after a comic death scene.”

In the UK, a movie which carries a ’12A’ certificate, like Sarbala Ji does, is deemed most suitable for audiences aged 12 or over. So, based on the age rating from the BBFC, the organisation believe Sarbala Ji is suitable for a teenager or above.

However, it should be noted, anyone under the age of 12 can also watch a ’12A’ certificate film at the cinema, so long as they are accompanied by an adult or adult guardian. So, if you wish to see the film as a family, and you have children under the age of 12 in attendance, they can view the film, so long as your or another adult is also present.
