I Know What You Did Last Summer UK rating

Let’s begin with the UK, where the British Board of Film Classification has awarded 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer with a ’15’ certificate. The film has received this certificate due to “strong bloody violence, injury detail, threat, sex, (and) very strong language.”

In the UK, films with a ’15’ certificate are deemed suitable for audiences aged 15 or over. Anyone under the age of 15 is unable to watch a ’15’ certificate film in a cinema – those are the rules.

It doesn’t matter if you are accompanied by a parent or not, unless you are 15 you won’t be permitted to a screening. However, anyone aged 15 or over is fine.

So, based on the information provided by the BBFC, I Know What You Did Last Summer is deemed suitable for teenagers aged 15 onward. But not suitable for 13- or 14-year-olds.

I Know What You Did Last Summer US rating

Over to the US now, where 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer has been granted an ‘R’ rating by the Motion Picture Association of America. The film has received this rating for intense terror violence and gore, strong language and some drug use.

In the US, an ‘R’ rated movie means the film contains some adult material. According to the MPAA, “Parents are urged to learn more about the film before taking their young children with them.”

Anyone in the US can watch an ‘R’ rated movie in the cinema, however, those under the age of 17 do require an accompanying parent or adult guardian. That said, your child could be eight-years-old and be allowed to watch if you are in attendance, so it is up to you to decide if they should.

So, yes, a teenager can watch I Know What You Did Last Summer at the cinema in the US. It is up to individual parent(s) to decide if this horror film is for their children.

I hope this information helps.
