In 2019, Japanese anime television series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba made its debut. The show – based on Koyoharu Gotouge’s Manga of the same name – followed the story of teenager, Tanjiro Kamado who strives to become a demon slayer, after his family are slaughtered and his sister is turned into a demon.

Upon making its debut, the first season of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was met with critical acclaim. This led to the production of spin-off movies, as well as additional seasons, which developed the story further and adapted multiple arcs from the original Manga.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train (2020)

Following the conclusion of Season One, the dark fantasy film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train was released. The film – which hit cinema screens in 2020 – saw Tanjiro and his comrades embark on a new mission aboard the Mugen Train, and acted as a direct sequel to the show.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Season Two (2021 – 2022)

In 2021, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba continued with its second season. This season contained eighteen episodes, divided into two story arcs: The ‘Mugen Train Arc’ and the ‘Entertainment District Arc’.

The next movie popped up in 2023 under the title, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village. Unlike the previous movie, which was produced as an original film, this entry acted as a compilation film, which incorporated footage from the final two episodes of Season Two, and the first episode of Season Three (which at the time, had not been released).

Season Three continued in 2023 with eleven episodes. This season focused on one story arc: The ‘Swordsmith Village Arc‘.

This movie was conceived as a direct sequel to season three, and was created using the final episode of Season Three, the first episode of Season Four (which hadn’t been broadcast at the time of release), and additional material.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Season Four (2024)

The television series continued in 2024, for a fourth season comprising eight episodes. Once again there was one story arc: The ‘Hashira Training Arc‘.

The film – Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part One: Akaza Returns – would act as a direct sequel to Season Four and would be the first entry in a trilogy of films covering the ‘Infinity Castle Arc‘.
