The summer blockbuster season rolls on, and soon it’ll be the turn of Freakier Friday to make its debut. The body swap comedy is heading to cinema screens in early August, hoping to bring some fun and cheer amongst all the popcorn munchin’.

Freakier Friday stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. The film is a sequel to the 2003 fantasy movie, Freaky Friday, which saw Curtis and Lohan play mother and daughter, Tess and Anna Coleman, who swap bodies during the course of the movie.

In this latest instalment, there’s further body swapping antics, leading to more domestic disharmony. But how suitable is the picture for family audiences?

Let’s take a look at the age rating.

Let’s start with the UK, where the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has awarded Freakier Friday a ‘PG’ rating for “mild bad language.” In the UK, a movie with a ‘PG’ certificate is regarded as suitable for all ages, although the occasional scene may be unsuitable for very young/sensitive children.

Any one of any age can view a ‘PG’ in UK cinemas, with no adult supervision required. This means, whether you’re attending the film as a family, or your children are planning on going alone or with their friends, they will have no major problems with this film.

It’s worth noting that 2003’s Freaky Friday also carries a ‘PG’ certificate. So, if you want to see what sort of film Freakier Friday is going to be, you can take a look at the first film to get a flavour, ahead of the release of this new one.

In the US it’ll probably come as no surprise that Freakier Friday is also rated ‘PG’. In the US, films rated ‘PG’ by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) are suitable for all ages, but parents are made aware that some material might not be suitable for very young children.

In the US, anyone can watch a ‘PG’ film in the cinema, so once again, the whole family can see Freakier Friday without any obstacles. Likewise, if your children are planning to attend a screening without you, this is fine too.

So, with this information you can now go ahead and plan your Freakier Friday screening accordingly. Just remember to grab the popcorn and drinks on the way in, because we all know they rob you blind at the concession stand.
