New to UK DVD this week is the third season of independent Australian LGBTQ+ drama series, Single, Out. Written, directed and produced by Lee Galea, the series stars Will Hutchins, Joel Nankervis, Steven Christou, and Jake Hyde, and sees magazine photographer Adam return to Melbourne, following a period away in Sydney.
Adam is only back in town for a few weeks, but upon arrival his father arranges a catch-up, where he promptly asks for a favour. Adam’s half-brother, Ethan, is looking for a writing job, and hopes Adam can put in a good word at the Melbourne branch of his magazine.
Adam agrees and soon Ethan is working as a writer at Single, Out. Ethan proves popular with his colleagues, but soon gets caught up in plenty of drama of his own.

If you’re familiar with Single, Out and you’re up to date with Season One and Two of the show, then you’ll know what to expect. There’s no major break from the format, and it’s essentially business as usual.
As for those who are less than familiar with the series, Single, Out is a likeable, low-budget show, filled with various members of the LGBTQ+ community, some topless lads, and a bit of horn. Each season revolves around the lives of guys and gals in their twenties, with Adam as the lead figure.
Although, it should be said that a big focus this season is Ethan. Adam’s half-brother features quite prominently this time around, taking up a fair bit of the screen time in the process.

Will Hutchins is back as Adam and he is as delightful as ever. Hutchins is joined by some of the main players from the previous seasons, and this includes Steven Christou as Adam’s brother, Clayton, and Jake Hyde as ex-love interest, Gabe.
It’s good to see the familiar faces back, even if this third season isn’t quite as strong as what came before. There’s still plenty of comedy and relationship dilemmas, but it all feels a little less impactful for this third helping, possibly because the focus drifts away from Adam.
That said, this show is still an indie Aussie gem and as with the previous seasons, Single, Out Season Three makes for perfectly decent hangover TV. The episode count remains at seven instalments, each clocking in at an attention-friendly 20-minutes, and this seems to work for the show.

As well as the seven episodes, the Season Three DVD includes bloopers and a trailer. The disc costs around £12.99, and is available from HMV, Fopp, or Amazon.
Alternatively, if discs are no longer your thing, the show (including Season Three) is now available to stream on Here TV. Hurrah!
