In 2004, the fantasy anime film, Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow made its debut. The movie was conceived as a spin-off/continuation of the Naruto anime series, and followed Naruto Uzumaki and his Team 7 as they embark on a mission to protect Princess Yukie Fujikaze.

Receiving positive reviews, and proving successful at the box-office, Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow demonstrated the desire for feature-length Naruto adventures. As such, further Naruto movies soon followed, weaving themselves in and out of various Naruto anime series.
