In 1997, the Japanese animated feature film Case Closed: The Time Bombed Skyscraper made its debut. Based on Gosho Aoyama’s Case Closed manga stories, and designed as a spin-off of the Case Closed anime series, the film followed the story of Detective Jimmy Kudo – a high school detective who is forced to adopt the pseudonym, Conan Edogawa, after he ingests lethal poison which shrinks his body to the size of an elementary school child.
Released to a positive reception, Case Closed: The Time Bombed Skyscraper was a big hit with audiences and prompted the release of further films. These films popped up on an annual basis, creating a long-running collection of Case Closed / Detective Conan movies.
