How many Anaconda movies are there?

In 1997, monster movie, Anaconda snapped its way into cinemas. The film – a horror story about a large, human-eating snake – starred Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube, and was a surprise hit at the box office.

Following its release, Anaconda developed a cult fanbase and in turn spawned a series of sequels to further the story. But how many Anaconda movies are there?

What is the order of the Anaconda movies?

Anaconda (1997)

As noted above, the first entry in the series is 1997’s Anaconda. In this movie, a documentary crew head off into the Amazon Rainforest to shoot some footage of a long lost tribe.

During their expedition, the crew encounter a large anaconda, which begins to attack the group. But unbeknown to them, they have another problem on their hands, as a poacher is hunting the snake and will stop at nothing to achieve his goal.

Upon release, Anaconda was met with a fairly poor reception from critics. However, the movie was a box-office success, paving the way for another entry.

Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid (2004)

With Anaconda proving to be a hit at the box-office, a sequel went into production, arriving in 2004 under the title, Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid. Conceived as a stand-alone film, not directly connected to its predecessor, Anacondas focused on a team of researchers who become stalked by giant anacondas in Borneo.

As with the first film, Anacondas was not a critical hit, but it did prove successful at the box-office. This pretty much guaranteed more films.

Anaconda 3: Offspring (2008)

Although both Anaconda movies were financial successes, the box-office returns were diminishing. As such, for the third entry, Anacondas 3: Offspring, the series moved to television, with Part 3 airing on the Sci-Fi Channel.

In this movie, a team of scientists inadvertently create a new breed of anaconda. As it escapes into the wild, a team of mercenaries must track it down.

Anacondas: Trail of Blood (2009)

Sticking with the Sci-Fi Channel for movie number four: Anacondas: Trail of Blood. In this film, a genetically engineered snake gains regenerative abilities.

Lake Placid vs. Anaconda (2015)

With movie number five, the Anaconda series crossed over with the Lake Placid film series for a monster mash-up. The result was Lake Placid vs. Anaconda, which aired on Syfy in 2015.

Anaconda (2025)

Following the release of Lake Placid vs. Anaconda, the Anaconda movie series appeared to have come to a natural end. However, in reality the series was merely on hiatus, and would be revived in 2025 with a sixth instalment, simply titled Anaconda.

Designed as a ‘reimagining’ of the 1997 film, Anaconda would star Jack Black and Paul Rudd, and combine action, horror, and comedy. Anaconda would also be the first film to receive a theatrical release since Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid.
