Freaky Friday (1976)

The first Freaky Friday movie hit cinemas in 1976 with Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster playing mother and daughter, Ellen and Annabel Andrews. In this movie, the pair simultaneously wish to trade places for the day, then are shocked when their wish is granted and mother becomes daughter and vice-versa.

Summer Switch (1984)

Up next is the TV special, Summer Switch which aired on ABC and acted as a loose sequel to Freaky Friday. In this film, which is based on Mary Rodger’s book of the same name, Robert Klein plays Bill Andrews (husband of Ellen), who swaps bodies with his son Benjamin, as played by Scott Schwartz.

A Billion for Boris (1984)

Another TV ‘movie’, this time adapting Mary Rodgers’ book, A Billion for Boris. In this film, three New York teens – including Benjamin Andrews (Seth Green) – fix a broken television set only to discover it now receives tomorrow’s broadcast.

Freaky Friday (1995)

Up next is the second adaptation of Mary Rodgers’ Freaky Friday story, which was produced as a television film, hitting screens in 1995. In this movie, Ellen and Annabel are played by Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann.

Freaky Friday (2003)

Into the ’00s and Freaky Friday was adapted for the third time, returning to cinema screens in the process. In this movie, Tess Coleman and her daughter Anna swap bodies, with Jamie Lee Curtis playing Tess and Lindsay Lohan as Anna.

Freaky Friday (2018)

Back to TV for this next adaptation, which this time is a musical take on Freaky Friday, starring Heidi Blickenstaff and Cozi Zuehlsdorff. In this fourth adaptation, Katherine Blake (Blickenstaff) and her daughter Ellie (Zuehlsdorff) switch bodies.

Freakier Friday (2025)

Back to cinemas once again for this next entry, which is a direct sequel to 2003’s Freaky Friday. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman respectively, while new cast members include Julia Butters as Harper Coleman and Sophia Hammons as Lily Davies.

In this film, Tess swaps bodies with soon-to-be step-granddaughter Lily, while Anna swaps with her daughter Harper.
